When it comes to choosing colour, there are no strict rules but there are many factors to take into consideration, such as architecture, use and shape of a room, and above all, light. This is one of the most important factors and the amount of natural light and the direction of the room should always be taken into account when selecting colours. Before you start, it helps first to establish which neutrals you feel most comfortable with.
Warm grey tones such as Slipper Satin®, Lime White, Off White and Old White have a very sophisticated feel. They are traditional colours but work well in contemporary situations too.
Colours with a yellowish hue, for instance, White Tie®, New White, Matchstick® and String® have a more pretty ‘country’ feel and are very easy to live with.
If warmer tones appeal then Pointing®, Dimity®, Joa’s White® and Archive® should be considered. This group has a very warm feel and creates an extremely relaxing atmosphere.
Cool grey tones will give you a more hard-edged contemporary feel but still retain a slight underlying warmth. These include Wimborne White, Strong White®, Skimming Stone and Elephant’s Breath®.
