New Estate Eggshell

Long before it came into vogue, Farrow & Ball recognised the importance of the environment. For many years we have offered some of the most environmentally friendly paints available anywhere in the world. The vast majority of Farrow & Ball paint is classified by the US Environmental Protection Agency as zero VOC.

Farrow & Ball is now pleased to enhance its eco-friendly range with the launch of Estate® Eggshell, a unique high performance paint which retains the flow, appearance and performance of traditional oil-based eggshell paint, yet has minimum impact on the environment.

Extremely durable and ideal for use on all interior woodwork and metal including radiators, Estate® Eggshell is an excellent, low-sheen complement to Farrow & Ball Estate® Emulsion and Modern Emulsion, giving the unmistakeably elegant Farrow & Ball look.

Estate® Eggshell is available now in all Farrow & Ball colours and in tin sizes of 750ml, 2.5 litres & 5 litres.

Little Greene in association with English Heritage have revived a range of period colours, all of which have been fully authenticated. The colour card provides an easy guide to an era and for every shade a note to its provenance. Available in twelve finishes to order from the store.

The Arts and Crafts palette of Morris & Co was sourced from the comprehensive Morris & Co archive containing the complete spectrum of colours employed by the original block printed wallpapers designed by William Morris and his contemporaries. Designed and produced to exacting standards, these heritage paints are carefully produced in traditional chalky Matt Emulsion and Oil-Based Eggshell for use at home, available to order from store.

We still continue to be proud stockists of the excellent range of paints produced by Farrow & Ball. Based in Dorset, Farrow & Ball use only the finest ingredients and still manufacture paints and wallpapers by traditional methods.

Another Top Tip From Farrow & Ball

A guide to painting an outdoor shed which has been previously painted with creosote.

This is a frequently asked question in the shop and confirms that all sheds need not be stained brown!

First paint a small area with Exterior Wood Primer. When dry, examine to see if it has held back the creosote. This will probably depend on how long ago the creosote was applied. If it is bleeding through you will need to apply a coat of Aluminium Primer, followed by two coats of Exterior Eggshell.

However, if no bleeding has occurred then you can continue painting the shed in Exterior Wood Primer and then apply two coats of Exterior Eggshell.

Please note Exterior Eggshell is not suitable for timber fence panels.

Dark Moods

Usually paint sales are fairly predictable. This wet summer however has put everything out of sync! Instead of having friends round for a BBQ, we are convinced that everyone is having painting parties instead, and not only that, the choice of colour has become darker with mahogonay and off black being used to paint the walls! Lets hope we get a bit of fair weather so that all the outside jobs can be completed and that the brighter colours are given a chance!

Exterior Paint Tips From Farrow & Ball

Here are few frequently asked questions and answers!

Can I paint plastic drainpipes? Yes - Allow to weather for at least 12 months, lightly abrade and wash down prior to painting directly with Oil Full Gloss.

Can I paint my shed which is currently wood-stained? Yes - as long as it has weathered. Use Exterior Oil Primer & Undercoat followed by two coats of Exterior Eggshell.

Can I paint terracotta plant pots? Yes - Although the bottom should remain unpainted.

What's Limewash used for? It is ideal for any building that needs to breathe, ideally lime plaster or render substrate. Commonly, the walls of older buildings have no cavity, thus require a breathable finish to allow moisture to evaporate. Using a modern paint which seals these walls can be damaging to the substrate resulting in longer term problems.

A Romantic Look With Modern Influence

Farrow & Ball predict delicate candy colour interiors will replace starkly neutral schemes with pretty shades such as 'Setting Plaster' and 'Pink Ground' being key to this romantic, girly look. Accents of dark stormy greys, khaki greens and chocolate browns such as 'Mouse's Back', or highlights of mint and duck egg blues such as 'Teresa's Green' work equally well with these soft muted shades, evoking a world of faded elegance and sensuality.
