Our customers are fabulous and a rich source of information. Today we have been given a Tudor recipe for a homemade Christmas pomander which will not rot! Start off with an orange and sellotape a cross on it ( where the ribbon will go); then fill each quarter with cloves. Mix together orriss root, ground cloves, cinnamon and ginger...to your own liking....take off the sellotape and roll the orange around in the powder. Wrap in a paper bag to cure for about 2-3 weeks, or if you're impatient like me, place in the bottom oven of the Aga or somewhere warm like the airing cupboard for about a week. Once dried out, tie on your ribbon and for a bit of Christmas sparkle, pin beads amongst the cloves. We can't wait to try this out and there's going to be a prize for the best staff pomander!
Sourcing the orris root may proove a little difficult but we suggest www.baldwins.co.uk ...good luck!
